The city is surrounded by Hoshiarpur II Tehsil to the north, Banga Tehsil to the south, Haroli Tehsil to the East and Garhshankar Tehsil to the South. More to the point, Mahilpur also has proximity with the villages like Langeri, Baghaura, Haveli, Dohlron and Kukowal.

The land of Mahilpur is adorned with many historical and religious places in which the most famous is Gurdwara Shaheedan Sahib. It is a historical shrine located in Ladhewal village of this town. This religious place is dedicated to Shahizada Ajit Singh, who was the elder son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. In the months of May & June, a jorh mela is organized on every Tuesday besides an Amrit Sanchar Ceremony at Gurdwara Sahib in the memory of Baba Ajit Singh and the Shaheed Singhs. This holy shrine is also comprised of Harian Vailan, the place where those Sikhs were cremated who fought in a battle against Zabar Khan. There are some other places of interests too located near to Mahilpur such as Gurdwara Tahli Sahib, Gondpur and Gurdwara Nanaksar Sahib at Village Sarangowal.
